Flight Operations Manager - Sep 2015 to Present
AERIUM Analytics
I was responsible for developing a UAV as a Service business model and tasked with devising novel ways to integrate emerging technologies into existing or new work flows for both large and small clients.
I was involved with the founding of Aerium Analytics as it grew from partnerships between Remedy Energy Services and our Parent and Sister companies, Lorrnel Consultants and Evolution Geomatics respectively. This provided me with the opportunity to learn about the evolving regulatory framework for UAVs in Canada and around the world. As a technology enthusiast I found assessing new technologies and evaluating their efficacy and applicability for a given task gratifying.
Successes included educating our client base on the benefits of UAVs and ultimately reducing costs for our clients. I was able to achieve this cost reduction while providing a better product with shorter turn-around by analyzing and modifying their existing workflows.
Ultimately I was the first UAV Pilot to fly at an International Airport including daily operation of a unique ornithopter (Robird) as well 3D Scanning of runways and other buildings & assets.
G.I.S. Manager - Jun 2010 to Sep 2015
Lorrnel Consultants
My primary role when starting at The Lorrnel Group was to take the G.I.S. specialists from Lorrnel Consultants and from Evergreen Land Use (sister companies) and to create a new department/brand focused on mapping; Evolution Geomatics.
Assigned tasks and responsibilities were myriad. I had to interact with clients in a professional, interested, proactive and solutions oriented manner with the goal of understanding their business and identifying solutions to concerns of which the client may or may not be aware. It was important to analyse trends in technology and industry so as to identify markets and applications that, if adopted early and actioned on effectively, would lead to an increased market share.
It was also necessary to research, procure, manage and augment existing datasets for internal use, use by existing clients or provided as a service or product to new clients.
Creating a cohesive group set up for success necessitated staff on-boarding, procedure auditing and improvement, increasing efficiency and quality control through standardization and automation. This was facilitated in part by comprehensive Standard Operating Procedure documentation. I was able to identify new talent and apply staff resources in the most effective and profitable manner.
